Show Support for Breast Oasis to Help Women in Your Community

Support BreastOasis.orgAs a practice manager or physician, you understand the importance of building positive relationships with both business and non-profit organizations in your community. Show your support for charitable organizations by donating your time, services, money, or just promoting awareness about an organization that really resonates with you and your practice.

One organization that may interest you is Breast Oasis, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing women who may not be able to afford them, with clean, certified, gently used bras. This organization collects gently used bras to donate them to women in need. The organization also works with companies and organizations such as Mentor, the Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit and Medina Counties, and Bloomingdales to support its mission.

Breast Oasis was founded by Ohio based plastic surgeon Dr. John Pedersen upon his realization that many breast surgery patients were throwing away perfectly good bras following their procedures. Dr. Pedersen and his team at Akron Plastic Surgeons created Breast Oasis as an outlet for women to connect with one another and help those in need by donating their gently used bras.

In order for women to donate, Breast Oasis has created various destinations for women to send in their new or gently used bras including retail drop boxes as well as their website www.breastoasis.org. Upon receipt, the bras are collected, inspected, laundered, packaged into gift bags and then distributed to women in need.

Get in touch with one of the affiliates around the country to find out how you can support this organization’s mission!

This organization relies on the generosity of its affiliates and individual donors to meet its goals and provides several options for donation. Your practice could:

  • Collect donations on behalf of Breast Oasis and take the items to a local affiliate
  • Send charitable donations in the mail with a postage-paid shipping envelope
  • Make a monetary donation online
  • Give your staff the day off to donate time as volunteers at an affiliate in your area
  • Attend or promote some of the Breast Oasis events held throughout the year

Facebook, Facetime and Skype Drive Demand for Facial Plastic Surgery

Facebook and Skype Drive Demand for Facial Plastic SurgerySeveral recent studies suggest that facial plastic surgery and cosmetic enhancements are becoming increasingly popular among heavy social media users. Plastic surgeons are reporting that people are now more self-conscious after seeing candid pictures on Facebook photos and even Skype’s iChat video chat feature.

Dr. Schaffner from New York City recently interviewed with Jezebel.com about this emerging trend and states, “With a good degree of frequency, people will come in and say, ‘I saw myself in the mirror but I didn’t really notice it until I saw myself on Facebook or on my iPhone or iPad’…When you look in the mirror you’re seeing a mirror image of yourself. But when you see yourself on social media, you’re seeing yourself the way the world sees you.”

Popular facial plastic surgery procedures include the ‘Lifestyle Lift’, a minimally invasive facelift that is performed under local anesthesia. Other options may include dermal fillers, lip-plumping injections, Botox, and chin implants. Tina Consorti is one patient who underwent a procedure because she didn’t like the way she looked on the Skype video chat web screen. She said that her flaws seemed amplified. She tells Betabeat.com, “I felt like I had a double chin…Going on Skype or FaceTime you definitely see it — it looks twice as big as it normally is. I just wanted a nice clean look when I’m conversing with someone on Skype.”

Demand for chin augmentation procedures has increased dramatically in the past couple of years, and rhinoplasty, fillers, and mini-facelifts may soon be part of this growing trend.
