Case Study: How a Doctor Leverages Online Marketing Tools to Attract More Patients

How a Doctor Leverages Online Marketing Tools to Attract More PatientsWe’ve discussed a number of different online marketing strategies and tools that our doctors are using to attract more patients and build their online presence these past few months. If you’re like many medical professionals just starting to put together your marketing campaign, you may be wondering how effective these tools and approaches really are.

A radiation oncologist from Tampa, Florida shares some of her experiences with different online marketing strategies below. We’ve found that many of our PracticeDock clients enjoy similar successes, and we provide a number of online marketing tools to help you attract those high-quality leads month after month.

Jamie Cesaretti, MD shares her experience with medpageTODAY’s KevinMD.com here. Here’s a summary of her successes, and some of our suggestions for making these strategies work for your practice:

  • Online physician directories. Dr. Cesaretti explains, “To break the referral pattern, I updated and posted my physician profile for free on an online physician directory, ratings, and reputation management website.” Our doctors use our LocateADoc.com directory and lead generation network to do the same thing, and can enjoy the benefit of a professional profile and web presence after our recent website re-launch.
  • Paid listings. Dr. Cesaretti reports that she paid a nominal monthly fee to secure a spot for a paid search listing. This helped to ensure she appeared on the first page of organic search results and she targeted certain keywords for patients looking for Tampa doctors. PracticeDock also offers paid search or Keyword Marketing packages to help you attract qualified prospects.
  • Professional website. Having a professional website is critical to your success with any online marketing campaign. Dr. Cesaretti points out, “Practically every practice has a website for marketing purposes.” Take advantage of our Website Control solution to set up and manage your professional website. You’ll also need an SEO Marketing strategy to ensure your website is found on the major search engines and is optimized to rank high on local search.

Attract More Patients with a Loyalty Program

Attract More Patients with a Loyalty ProgramIf you’re struggling to keep that appointment schedule full or just want to drum up more business for the long-haul, consider instilling some type of rewards or loyalty program for your satisfied patients. Patients that are interested in multiple procedures or a series of cosmetic treatments will be more likely to return to your practice when there is some type of incentive involved.

Whether it’s a discount on a maintenance treatment or a special rate on a series of treatments, you can increase patient loyalty by extending some special offers or rewards through a patient loyalty program – and keep your practice as busy as ever.

Types of Patient Rewards Programs

There are a number of different ways to increase customer loyalty through some type of rewards program. Some ideas include:

  • Courtesy voucher for a future visit
  • Complimentary service
  • Complementary product(s) at a discounted rate
  • Referral bonus
  • Exclusive discount on another treatment
  • Free or discounted trial of a new product, service, or technology coming to your practice
  • Volume discounts on product purchases
  • Free products with treatments exclusively for past patients

The goal is to keep your patients interested in what else you offer and encourage them to return to your practice when they are ready for treatment. Keeping in touch with these patients via email and Facebook is critical for building that patient-doctor relationship. Make those patients feel special and welcome them back to your practice with some type of reward.

Promoting Your Rewards Program

Make sure all new patients are aware that you have a rewards program in place and what types of benefits they will receive once they become a patient. You can also offer more personalized rewards, such as a discount on services during a patient’s birthday month, or an exclusive gift or a gift card for patients who spend a certain dollar amount over the course of the year. Think of different ways to promote your rewards program and emphasize the different types of freebies and discounts available so patients are eager to book a treatment and start earning rewards.

How Social Media is Changing Patient Behavior

How Social Media is Changing Patient BehaviorAccording to 2011 data compiled by Frost and Sullivan and QuantiaMD, approximately 87% to 90% of physicians used at least one social media site for personal reasons and approximately 67% to 75% were posting for professional reasons on sites including Facebook, Twitter, a personal blog, and even YouTube. An increasing number of patients and doctors are accounting for the high numbers of social media engagement, and this form of communication could be affecting how patients interact with your office, how they find you online, and even what decisions they make.

Here are some of the most significant ways that social media is changing patient behavior:

  1. Finding more information with ease. Sharing your blog posts, links of interest, or even some of your personal insights on industry topics makes it easier for patients to find what they are looking for – and head back to your website for more information or contact details. Patients are using social media sites to seek out information they need to make important decisions.
  2. Improved patient-doctor interaction. Outside of the office, patients have access to their doctor through a social media platform where they can ask simple questions, or just click through to various resources provided by the practice.
  3. Increased trust in the patient-doctor relationship. Doctors who are active on social media sites are creating an online presence which makes them more approachable and encourages more communication. Providing informative blog posts, answering questions in a public space like Facebook, and highlighting the latest industry trends can help to improve the doctor-patient relationship by building trust.
  4. Reducing anxiety about a procedure. As more patients share their experiences about different procedures or after working with a specific doctor on Facebook, review sites, and other social media sites, some patients may experience less anxiety about their own treatment.
  5. More support. Not only can patients now interact with their doctors in a new way, but they can also find other patients who may have gone through a similar procedure process. They can connect with these patients to ask specific questions about different procedures.

Using Online Video to Achieve Top Google Search Engine Rankings

If you’ve Googled your name or your practice’s name lately, you may have found that you’ve dropped in rankings and can’t seem to get to the first-page of Google search results anymore. Google continues to change its algorithms and it’s become increasingly difficult to get to the top of Google search results across all industries.

However, Google is now delivering “blended” search results where images and videos are pushed to the top of the page. Here at PracticeDock, we’ve found that doctors that have videos added to their profiles have a much higher chance of getting on that coveted first page of search results.

Take a look at the screenshot below and you’ll see how a liposuction doctor in Tampa achieved such high rankings just from video. The video search results show up right under another doctor’s website, increasing the chances that a patient looking for a Tampa liposuction doctor will click through to learn more.Using Online Video to Achieve Top Google Search Engine Rankings

We’ve seen countless examples like these, which is why we encourage our doctors to add a video component to their profile. Not only will this video show up in search results, but the doctor profile will have more valuable content for the patient and can also be indexed on the search engines.

More search engine experts are realizing that Google indexes video content fairly easily, and that search engine crawlers also rely on the title of the video and description to index the content. Video SEO is a winning strategy and will continue to be an important component of any online marketing campaign.

PracticeDock can help you achieve those top Google rankings with a powerful and compelling video, or set of videos!
